The School
Our Story
It all started in 2013 as a dream to make a difference in a small rural compound called Mwandi in Livingstone, Zambia.
Our preschool caters to children aged 2 to 6, split into three classes (a junior, middle and senior class). We started with just 9 students, and our school has grown over time and we are now at capacity with over 50 kids, all of whom are sponsored to attend the school through our Sponsor-a-Child program.
Our children are provided with excellent guidance and teaching to give them a proper foundation for literacy and numeracy skills. Our preschool students learn major subjects like the alphabet, numbers, social studies, art, and science, as well as other interesting topics, setting our children on a trajectory of lifelong success. We believe visual and experiential forms of learning are key to engaging young minds.
At the end of 2018, we said farewell to our first set of graduates—Wisdom, Dessy, Annetty, Mama G and Blessing—as they entered grade 1 at primary school. We are so proud of the progress our school has made since it first opened in 2016 and of the achievements of our students!
Since then we have had a total of 31 graduates from Baobuyu and each year at Baobuyu our senior class grows! We have been able to achieve so much: our students develop a solid foundation that enables them to go on to Grade 1 prepared and ready to take on any challenge.
Our Approach
Interactive learning
We make sure to use lots of colors, props, games, videos and experiments to keep our kids active and having so much fun they don’t even realize they are learning!
Holistic education
We also want to make sure our kids learn important values such as cooperation, respect for each other, manners, empathy and kindness.
Nutrition
Our teachers and parents have seen firsthand the difference a healthy diet makes to the development and health of kids. Each school day, our kids are provided with a healthy cooked lunch, which keeps their tummies full and brains engaged for a full day of learning.
