We did it! Solar power is here!
We set out on a mission to bring sustainable, reliable solar power to Baobuyu Learning Center — and in just four weeks, we’re thrilled to say: mission accomplished!
Thanks to the incredible support, our school and community center are now powered by 6 glorious solar panels! The fridges are humming, sewing machines are zipping, computers are charging, and the entire center is buzzing with excitement and possibility.
This is more than electricity — it’s a life-changing upgrade for our students, staff, and community. From education to water access to economic empowerment, every part of Baobuyu is now more resilient, more sustainable, and more energized.

Silent Auction
Success!
To help raise funds for our solar system, we called on our incredible community for experiences, dinners, and stays — and the response was beyond amazing.
Thanks to your generosity and some fierce last-minute bidding, our Silent Auction raised $2,386 USD!

Why Solar?
Since our doors opened in 2016, our center has established several community initiatives and sustainable projects to address pressing problems in education, food and water security, and gender inequality. However, the drought and electricity crisis in Zambia since 2023 has hindered our community development operations and access to clean water.
We are excited to announce that Baobuyu raised funds for a solar system for our school and community center!
The ongoing drought and electricity crisis have significantly impacted our work, making solar power essential to:

Support our Women's Sewing Circle, ensuring they have access to valuable hours of work and promote economic empowerment

Provide uninterrupted meals and education for our preschool by ensuring food is stored safely in our fridges and freezers, and provide much-needed fans all day long to cool down during the hot season.

Maintain access to clean water for our students and the community, by powering our bore hole 24/7 that serves everyone who walks through our gate
