Whether you’re contributing to lesson planning, community outreach, or fundraising, your efforts will make a meaningful impact. Interning with us offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the nonprofit sector, develop your professional skills, and engage in cultural exchange. If you’re passionate, energetic, and ready to make a difference, we encourage you to apply and become a valued member of our team.

Intern Testimonials
Laura, In-Peson Intern
"I enjoyed interning at Baobuyu so much that I ended up extending my stay. I had diverse tasks from grant writing to running different workshops to organizing the Reusable Pad Campaign. My favourite project was teaching life skills to 5th graders at a local primary school once a week for 6 weeks. As well as interacting with our amazing students! Their excitement and warm hugs woke me up in the mornings when I came to school, as I am not a morning person. I felt that the internship was very meaningful with all the interactions and teachings I got to have in the weeks I was here. All the people in the community were so nice and welcomed me warmly from the very beginning. In my free time, I truly enjoyed all of what Livingstone has to offer, I cannot wait to be back. Livingstone and Baobuyu will forever be in my heart!"
Brett, Remote Intern
"I had the great privilege of working with Baobuyu as a virtual intern in the summer
of 2024. I was able to contribute to several of their educational programs through
writing curricula and designing activities. My main focus was creating lesson plans
and power points for Baobuyu’s Girl Power group. This work provided me with
insight into a different culture and community. I learned to adapt language and
lesson plans to make more sense and be meaningful to the students. Educating
young girls about their bodies and teaching them self-esteem has profound
ramifications in the lives of everyone in their community. I hope that I played a
part in empowering young women at Baobuyu to achieve bodily autonomy and
pursue their dreams. It was extremely rewarding to get an inside look at how small,
community-centered NGOs run. I hope to work in this field someday and interning
at Baobuyu was a valuable experience for me."
Grace, In-person Intern
"I treasure my time interning at Baobuyu Learning Center. From my very first day at Baobuyu, I felt the warmth and excitement from the teachers, students, and community and knew it would be a great place to work. I loved having the flexibility, autonomy, and support to complete the projects that were most important and interesting to me, and I feel proud of the impact I was able to make in my short time there. My fondest memories are of teaching the puberty workshop to the Girl Power group at Baobuyu and at the DeSanto Centre for the Deaf, which was equal parts challenging and rewarding. Working at Baobuyu pushed me out of my comfort zone and inspired me to think about how I can be part of meaningful change, and for that, I am forever grateful."
Azrah, Remote Intern
"My time interning with Baobuyu Learning Center was honestly one of the coolest and most memorable experiences I’ve had. Even though I was a remote intern, they made me feel so included as if I was there in person. I was able to contribute by creating projects for the children to learn about climate change and also started a Pen-Pal program. It was fun to be able to see how excited the children were in the letters they wrote to each other. I learned so many new things about Zambia and the culture, people, and food through the children! It was fun to be able to participate in their lives even from afar.
My experience here has created a new sense of appreciation in my daily life. Connecting with people is what I love to do & I’m so glad I was able to be a part of the Baobuyu family for a little while."
Samuel, Remote Intern
"My experience with the Baobuyu Learning Center was an amazing experience. I spent 3 months remotely as a public health intern. My main responsibility was to create health information messages and designs using Canva for the center and the public. It was my first real experience with Canva. I had the opportunity to work with a wonderful supervisor, Katie. She was patient and every single feedback she gave to me really helped me to improve and now, I feel more comfortable using Canva. The environment was warm and welcoming, and I will recommend any students wanting to learn or showcase their skills via an internship to apply for an Internship with the Baobuyu Learning Center to do so as it offers a great opportunity to learn and improve skills."
Elena, In-Peson Intern
"My experience at Baobuyu was incredibly rewarding. One of the most beautiful parts of my 4 months there was contributing to female empowerment through the Girl Power project with local students. Working closely with these young girls and seeing their growth and confidence develop was super inspiring. Engaging with the community in Livingstone also taught me far more than I could have ever expected—there’s an amazing exchange of knowledge and values that happens when you’re fully immersed in a place like Mwandi. I’m grateful for the opportunity to be part of Baobuyu’s family and to have made connections and friendships that I will always carry with me."
Olivia, In-Peson Intern
"I interned with Baobuyu for three months and during that time I worked on a wide variety of projects. Working directly with Tammy created so many opportunities for me to get hands-on experience with all of the programs that Baobuyu offers. One project that I worked on that really sticks out to me was my puberty workshop. I was able to put on this workshop for the grade 7’s and grade 8’s in Mwandi compound. During this workshop, I got to work with the community teaching the puberty book that previous volunteers worked to create. Being able to work so closely with this group of kids created relationships that moved into other clubs such as the Google club as well as Girl Power. Working with Tammy at Baobuyu was one of the best experiences of my life and has gone on to shape my career path. "
Megan, In-Person Intern
"My experience as an intern at Baobuyu Learning Center was incredible. From the women, to the teachers and the cutest kids on the planet, I met so many people that I will never forget. I was constantly inspired by their stories, resilience, and the pure joy Zambians seem to radiate. Not only is it an amazing NGO to be a part of, but hanging out in the town of Livingstone gave me so many opportunities for new experiences. I got to go on amazing safaris, enjoy endless sunsets on the Zambezi, see the spectacular Victoria Falls, and partake in community events such as trivia night and braii night.
Tammy was a fabulous host and always made sure interns felt included in social gatherings after work. She is very flexible and loves to work with each intern's individual goals and passions to ensure they are having the experience they set out to have. I am so grateful I was able to be a part of something so amazing and I hope to be back!"
