After school and during weekends and holidays, Baobuyu Learning Center transforms into a Community Center where we hold FREE workshops and groups.
Community Centers
Community Centers create opportunities for residents of all ages to meet, learn, and share ideas. They strengthen the bonds between neighbors and provide space for programming that addresses education, health and wellness. They are a place for personal growth and community transformation. At Baobuyu, community programs are an extension of our mission to provide as much free and accessible education to the community as possible.
Our Center
How it works
In the afternoon, Baobuyu transforms from a preschool into a community center—the only one serving the Mwandi compound and surrounding area. We welcome approximately 200 community members (ages 7 to 70) each week for our clubs. These programs, run by our teachers, staff, and interns, constantly grow and change to meet the needs of our evolving community.
Our programs
Our clubs, including Girl Power, Art Club and Book Worms, all meet at Baobuyu on a weekly basis for a wide range of activities. We also offer various skills-training and education sessions for the wider community. We make our programs open to the entire community so that everyone has an opportunity to grow. The activities and courses offered at Baobuyu expand and transform endlessly as our community continues to change.
How can we offer programs for free?
Our sponsorship fees help fund some of the regular maintenance costs for the operation of the school, but the Community Center runs entirely on donations.
We are so grateful to our generous supporters who make these programs possible! We need your help to continue to run our Community Center and improve the lives of people in our community. For more information on how you can make a difference, click here.
